Sad news!

Today Georgetown University announced the sad news that that Terrance Davis is missing and presumed dead. A junior in the College, he was on vacation from his study abroad program at the University of Cape Town, when in Harkerville, South Africa with a fellow Hoya he was hit with a rouge wave while walking along the beach and swept out to sea. There is an on going search and rescue mission underway by the equivalent of the South Africa's Coast Guard. If you are a praying person, please keep this young man and his family in your prayers. There are two services scheduled for today.

The Hoya (the student newspaper) actually broke the story in yesterday's paper and there was a prayer service Monday night in William's Chapel on the first floor of my dorm. So this news is not necessarily new, but we were hoping for an email with much better news.

This is the worst nightmare for every family with a student abroad. I know my family worried while I was in China this last summer, and to be honest it was a fear of mine. Of something happening and being called to my eternal home and not the one here on earth. I remember my freshman fall, we had lost four students the summer before and I remember the sorrow that the student body had to work through. Having heard no news this summer, I was thankful we hadn't lost anyone this summer. Sadly, it seems not to be the case.
